The Moon and her Waves

She is
She is mine

but she is not
(all at the same time)

never to be dependent on me
as she was before

soon she will need me
no more

her growing body
shouts to the world,

“I am becoming!
I am woman…
Here I am!”

She is strong and brilliant
(wise beyond her years)

She is finding herself–
in the past
in the present
in the remnants
of a girl I once was

she will need me
no more

In the wake of her growing
I am also becoming

At last
at peace
with the movement of

in the same way
the moon
gives life to the tide
and then fades
she must leave
her existence and absence
forever changes the sea
