Storing Santa

I put these pictures away on Tuesday along with the rest of the Christmas decor. They hold a special place in my heart. Seeing what change just a year can bring is one of the most amazing joys of parenthood. I know Santa pictures are a common family tradition but it’s one I unintentionally started on Chloe’s first Christmas. With the chaos each Christmas season can bring, I’m thankful we haven’t missed getting to Santa. This year came very close, however. I dread the mall like the plague at Christmastime, so I procrastinated the Santa picture until the last-minute. I guess it paid off in the end because we were the only ones in line and the girls got to chat and sit with him for as long as they wanted. That has never happened before. In fact, we have been known to wait in two-hour lines just to get our $25.00 picture. I know. It’s insane…but these pictures are worth it to me.

Can you tell which dress of Chloe’s has been Cammie’s favorite the last few years?! She wants to wear it every Christmas but I think she will finally outgrow it this coming year. I may have to give it away so she won’t try to wear it again… it was worn in four Santa pictures and I think that is quite enough. 🙂

Every Christmas it gets harder to see the years passing in the santa pictures. Time has ticked on like flickers of light in a burning ember. Days fade into ash. Hours released into thin air. Minutes disappear and I’m left standing here…with pictures and memories. I don’t like when the time comes to store the Santa pictures away because before I know it, there will be another picture to join the collection and my girls will be older and bigger. One more year expired. Gone – passed with a blink. Another year to welcome in and start anew.

My girls don’t know this yet, but I am going to make them get their picture taken with Santa every Christmas – for as long as I’m alive. I don’t care how old they are, they will have their picture made with Santa. That’s my plan, anyway. We’ll see if they comply when they are teenagers. They may outgrow Santa’s lap someday but they will never outgrow a mama’s love for sweet memories!

Happy 2013! May your Christmas decor be easy to put away and may there be no ornament hooks left behind to ruin your vacuum cleaner! When you pack away your Christmas memories, make sure you keep a few close by – just in case you need to reminisce. Keep those special Christmas moments tucked away in your heart all year round.
